Saturday 23rd September

Chittlehampton 4 - South Molton 2
(Nott, R. Isaac)

South Molton are going through a rather tough time at the moment, with no points on the board and a series of player absentees they headed into this local derby with Chittlehampton with 6 of the 2nd teams winning squad. The Images started the game with a 4-4-2 formation.

The 1st half was one to forget for Molton as they were a goal down inside 10 minutes when there right winger skipped through tackles on the left and fizzed a ball across the box for the chittle front man to blast home 0-1. Chittle grabbed a 2nd soon after when a goal kick from the keeper bounced over the Molton defence for there other striker to nip in and lob the ball over Ben Lock 0-2. And again confusion in the Images defence let chittle in again 0-3 Half time.

The 2nd half was a much different affair as Molton began to force Chittle under pressure and it was sub Richard Nott who gave Molton hope when he broke free, shrugged off the challenge of the defender and smashed the ball into the top corner 1-3. Another sub Ryan Isaac called up from the 2nd team then powered a bullet header into the net 2-3 after good work out wide from Mark Searle. With predictions of a grandstand finish it was not the case, as Molton players pushed forward in a 3-4-3 formation Chittle broke away and deep cross over the keeper was headed in to finish the game off .

South Molton Res 6 - Woolsery 1
(Blake x3, Parsons x1, Paton x1, Haydon x1)

South Molton continued their undefeated start to the season with a 6-1 win against a struggling Woolsey team. In front of the watching South Molton Carnival Queen the images took the lead in within the first minute. A long ball into the box saw Lee Parsons beat the young keeper to the ball for his second goal of the season.
The Images second came 5 minutes later when a Tony Wilson cross found James Blake on the edge of the area who volleyed the ball into the corner of the net. Blake who was back form University doubled his tally soon after with a low drive after a corner.
The impressive Blake who was causing the Woolsery Defence all sorts of problems turned goal provider when he crossed for Scott Paton to head the images into a 4-0 lead.

Woolsery did have a few chances during the half but the defence with new signing Bobby Davidson were holding firm.

The second half started much the same as the second, however this time the Images scored from the penalty spot. James blake completing his hatrick with a cool finish. Henery Haydon then wrapped up the goal tally with his first for the club with a cooly taken right foot drive low to the keepers right.

Woolsery then came to life and forced a goal through a penalty after Dave Issac brought down a Woolsery player in box.
With a nunber of images players carrying injuries the defence shut up shop to hang onto a good 6-1 win.

South Molton Res  1 - Chittlehampton Res 0
(Ryan Isaac)

After two wins on the spin, South Molton 2nds were looking to make it a hatrick of wins as they entertained local rivals Chittlehampton on Tuesday
night. Henry Heydon, influential midfielder Dave Beer and Chief scout Andy Vernon all returned for the game after missing last weeks win against
Grosvenor. Manger Steve Seatherton again resisted the chance to play himself opting for a watch brief.

Overall both teams struggled to get going in the 1st half and neither goalkeepers were called into much action. However, eventually Molton did break the deadlock. An enormous throw from Ben Lock alluded everyone in the box except Ryan Isaac who was there to tap home 1-0.

Unfortunately despite it being a local derby and with a large crowd in attendance Molton played very poorly and it was a 2nd half that Chittlehampton totally dominated. The Images only real chance came when Ryan Issac sliced wide when it looked certain he would score. Thankfully the images held on for the win thanks to goalkeeper Mark Nicholson 'Banksie' who made some superb saves including one which he brilliantly tipped onto the bar. To sum up this was a very poor performance from all the Images players and they will certainly have to up there game if they want the team to be challenging at the top of the league come the end of the season.

South Molton  2 - North Molton 5 (Home)
(L. Kingdon, Reed)

Derby Day Disappointment

This was a much improved South Molton team performance, but they could not cope with a powerful North Molton team. Dean Plumber was in sparking form and bagged a hatrick, which proved to be the difference in the two teams.

The Images reverted to a 442 formation which saw them play much better in all areas of the field. This proved to be decisive with Lance Kingdon scoring fist for The Images. However, North Molton hit back and it was 3-1 at half time. Paul Herniman had kept the score down with some world class saves.
In the second half Rob Reed scored an excellent header from a Colin Kennerson corner, but it was North Molton who increased their lead and eventual ran out 5-2 winners.

South Molton Res  3 - Grovesner 1 (Home)
(Nott, Parsons, Fox)

This match could be an early indication on who will be pushing for promotion this year. Grovesner with a new look team had already battered last seasons Division One relegated team Woolsery 18-0 on Saturday and were looking for their next big scalp. However, the images also have a new look team thanks to Molton’s Chief Barnstaple Scout – Andy Veron.

Unfortunately Veron couldn’t play himself and David Beer, Elliot Short and Henry Haydon were also absent from the team that won away against Putford on Saturday. Mark ‘Banksie’ Nicholson and Geoff Russell both former Govesner players returned to the team which also included Ben Lock and Richard Nott. Manager Steve Seatherton resisted temptation to play himself and decide on a watching brief as a sub.

To say that the images were fired up was an understatement. This proved decisive in the first minute after a brilliant cross by Tony Wilson which was headed home by Richard Nott - GOAL. And soon after Molton doubled their lead thanks to another lighten attack which resulted in Lee Parsons shot which he buried in the bottom left hand corner - GOAL.

Grovesner got right back into the game though and fired in an excellent shoot midway through the first half that Banksie had no chance with.

The half began to get even more heated with a number of head clashing; one resulted in a Grovesner player being taking to hospital in need of stitches. It was a fair challenge by Ben Lock who also came away with a bruised head.

The Grovesner defenders were really failing to cope with the massive aerial presences of Richard Nott and Rob ‘Crouchy’ Fox and this paid dividends for Molton late in the first half. South Molton dug out another chance, this time it was Rob ‘Crouchy’ Fox who headed the ball in form close range. GOAL 3-1 Molton.

Half Time - South Molton Res 3 - Grovesner 1

The second half started with Grovesner looking to get back into the game. They created a number of great chances but Banksie rolled back the years to make 3 world class stops against his former club.

Scott Paton came on for Molton late in the Second half to provide support for Richard Nott and there was an altercation between the Ref and Manager Steve Seatherton that resulted in Molton not having a lines man for the last 5 minutes.

But when the final whistle went it was a well deserved 3 points for Molton against a team that had boasted before the match they would win 12-0 against us.

Putford Res 2 - South Molton Res  4  (Away)
(Kingdon, Parsons, Seatherton, R Isaac)

A new look South Molton Reserves team took the long trip to Putford and came away with a massive victory. Not many teams will go to Putford and get a result on their sloped pitch but a battling performance saw the Reserves come away with the 3 ponits.

First half

The images shot down the slope in the first half and scored two good goals. The first came from a corner that was put into the net by Matt Kingdon. He lept high into the air to notch a goal with his head (or was it the top of his sholder?!).

The Images doubled their lead midway through the half when Lee Parsons broke from midfield to slot the ball under the advancing keeper.

Second Half

Going up the slope proved to be more difficult for the Images in the second half which wasn’t helped by an injury to Michael Gill. He was replaced by Ryan Isaac.

Putford attacked at will, using their greater experience on the pitch to great advantage.

Manger Steve Seatherton tried to combat this threat and Sam Runnalls came on to make his debut in place of another debutee Henry Heydon. The manager also brought himself on to replace Rob Fox (Crouchy) who had also made his debut for the Images.   This shuffle seemed to worsen things. Keith Maynard gave away a foul on the edge of the area which resulted in the free kick hitting a number of players finding its way to an unmarked Putford player; 2-1.

Putford then drew level with Elliot Short making his comeback in goal for South Molton letting a lame shot slip under his body; 2-2.

The story wasn’t over then though, and even though Putford pushed for a winner it was South Molton that made the decisive breakthrough. A foul by a Putford player just inside the Molton half resulted in a direct free kick. Steve Seatherton who was now filling in a left back steeped up to curl in a free kick from just inside the Putord Half. It was an unbelievable free kick considering it was shooting up the hill – definitely a goal of the season contender!

From there, Molton picked up the pace and put the game beyond doubt with a Ryan Isaac goal. Tony Wilson, another player making his debut cut the ball back in from the left hand side for last season’s player of the year Ryan Issacs to slot the ball home.

It was a decisive victory on a very difficult pitch.

Final Score -. Putford 2 – South Molton Reserves 4

Wednesday 30th September

Torrington Seconds 7 - South Molton 1  (Away)
(King)

It was the images second game down at the Floodlights in Torrington and it was another match to forget for Molton. Once again the Images 3-5-2 formation failed to cope with an early inform Torrington Seconds team.

The Images were 5-0 down at half time and although Molton reverted back to a 4-5-1 formation the final score ended 7-1. Matt King got Molton’s first goal of the season.

Final Score -> Torrington Seconds 7 – South Molton 1

Sat 26th August 2006

Shamwickshire 10 - South Molton 0  (Away)

The first Match of the season ended in defeat and humiliation for the Images. After last seasons cup heroics and a good placing in the League, Manager Paddy Talbot was looking to push the team to an even greater level.

Although excuses cannot be made Shamwickshire were back to their awesome best this season and have recruited a number of players from Woolsery and Northam Lions.

The Images were 7-0 down at half time and had hardly created a chance the entire first half. The second half was slightly different as Molton reverted to a 4-5-1 formation which they looked far more solid at the back.

Final Score -> Shamwickshire 10 – South Molton 0
